ROMI CAGE one name covering two people: writers duo Romy (Ro) and Michaël (Mi) Coomans (Cage). Indeed, they share the same last name. This single artists name represents the way in which they feel as one with each other, their passion for music and the world around them.
RoMi Cage brings ‘philosoftpop’ inspired by artists like John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac en Sarah Bareilles. Romy’s angelic voice evokes emotions of any kind. Their music covers themes like hope, faith and love.
Their debut album ‘Things We Never Say’ was produced in 2015 by 8 times Grammy award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (Alanis Morissette, Jason Mraz, U2) in Sunset Sound Studio’s, Los Angeles. They worked with top of the bill musicians as Sean Hurley (bassplayer John Mayer) and Victor Indrizzo (drummer Alanis Morissette). This unique chance to record their debut album in Los Angeles with pro Joe Chiccarelli was financially (and mentally) supported by over 350 sponsors from all over the world. Romy and Michaël are them eternally thankful for supporting this dream opportunity.
Before even having released one single, RoMi Cage performed as a support act for Dutch famous band Bløf and played live on the first episode of national radio Veronica’s show “Countdown Café”.
After releasing ‘Things We Never Say’ RoMi Cage received great reviews on their album and liveshows by ‘MusicMaker’ and ‘3voor12’. They performed in and outside the Netherlands (Switzerland, London, California, Denmark, Germany). Highlights were:, International Film Festival ‘FilmbytheSea, where also the documentary ‘Onderweg’ (on the road) about their lives was broadcasted, their album release in Paradiso, touring with British hit artist Paul Carrack as his opening act in venues like Oosterpoort, Effenaar and Metropool. Besides performing on stage RoMi Cage was invited by radio stations like NPO radio 1 and 2 (Paul Rabbering, Roodshow), Radio Veronice and BNR.
Recently RoMi Cage released their brand new EP called ‘Home’. This 5-track mini-album was recorded by Martijn Groeneveld (Kensington, Rondé, Blaudzun) and features the single ‘Where do you go’ which was viewed over 40.000 times on Facebook in the first week only. Their latest single ‘Hope Rises Like Dust’ has been released on November 23 and was reason for NPO Radio5 (Henkjan Smits and Manuela Kemp) and NPO Radio2 (Simone Walraven) to invite them for a live show and interview. In June they will perform in the aftershow of artist and Eurovision songfestival contestant Waylon in Tivoli, Utrecht.
“Time will tell who we really are”
-Who we really are-
“When dreams may seem have turned to ashes, hope rises like dust”
-Hope Rises Like Dust-
“If squares must be round I rather missout
It’s the bend that breaks equality”
-When love is a losing religion-
